Ruleset

Flow State Grappling is built on a pure submission-only philosophy. We have removed point-based stalling and subjective referee decisions to ensure the most definitive competitor takes gold.

  • Maximum Mat Time Guarantee: Our Double Elimination structure guarantees you will step onto the mat multiple times — one early mistake doesn't end your day.
  • Submission-Only (5 Minutes): There are no points, advantages, or scorecards. You win by forcing a tap.
  • The Double-Loss Draw Penalty: If the 5-minute clock expires without a submission, the match is a draw — and a draw counts as a loss for BOTH competitors. Stalling guarantees mutual elimination.
  • The 3-Man Finale: If a bracket whittles down to exactly three competitors, the final three enter a Round-Robin. Ties are broken by the fastest overall submission time.
  • Data-Driven Elo Seeding: Competitors enter with a baseline Elo by skill level (Novice 1000, Beginner 1200, Intermediate 1400, Expert 1600), updated after every match.
  • Absolute Divisions: All Absolute divisions run as Single Elimination brackets (random byes for odd numbers). Novice and Beginner share one Absolute.

Skill levels

  • Novice: Under 6 months of grappling experience (white belts).
  • Beginner: 6 months to 2 years (white belts).
  • Intermediate: 2 to 5 years (mandatory for blue belts).
  • Expert: 5+ years (mandatory for purple, brown and black belts).
